It seems as though in this economy, a place to call home is getting harder to find. This is especially true if you are living with a disability and need a special place to live. It’s possible to own your own home when you are disabled, and have someone come in on a daily basis to help you. You can also do various updates around the house, to make sure it accommodates you specifically.
There are often companies in various towns that offer residential living. You can join their program and they will find a home for you to live in. Sometimes you are paired with a roommate or two; if that is something you are up for. It’s hard to say “go check out this place” because everyone lives in various places. Have someone help you search for programs in your area that are similar to this. These programs are often very accommodating and willing to meet your special needs.
Assisted living is always a residential living option. Those who live in assisted living often live in apartments. These apartments or duplexes are quite nice and there is help available for those who need it. The nice part about assisted living is that you can choose your level of care. If you want someone to come in and help you do laundry, then that’s possible. It’s not like a nursing home and you are in more control of your life than you think.
It can be frustrating and a drawn out process to find a home that accommodates your specific requests. The best advice that someone can give you is to take one step at a time. Choose a place that accommodates your disability. For example, you do not want to live at a residential home that accommodates blind persons when you are actually deaf. There are social workers available who can help you find the home that’s perfect for you.
