The new bike lane connection between the Near Southside and Downtown that I wrote about recently is now being installed. Crews have been out laying out the new striping, and the bike lanes under the I-30 and railroad overpasses, as well as the bike lanes on Commerce between Lancaster and 9th in Downtown, are already on the pavement. The bike symbols and other finishing touches are still being worked on, and work will be underway through tomorrow getting all those details installed as well.

Above is the new bike lane running along South Main under the overpasses, headed toward downtown. You can see the buffer zone between the bike lane and the car lane.

Above are the new bike lanes connecting to the South Main underpass lanes along Commerce in Downtown. The Commerce lanes run from Lancaster north to 9th, past the Water Gardens, Convention Center, Texas Wesleyan law school, the Sheraton Hotel, and other locations. One segment of these lanes will be filled in with green for better visibility.

So now, as crews finish up the new lanes, we have an uninterrupted bike lane connection between the Near Southside and Downtown – a big step forward for Fort Worth’s bike friendliness.
